ABOUT JAMIE TOOMEY
Jamie Toomey is an Indigenous Australian content creator and Wiradjuri man, with family connections across three states and particularly strong connections to Dubbo and Wellington in New South Wales.
Although Jamie has never lived on Country, his Aboriginal identity and connections have remained an important part of his life through family and community.
Jamie has spent more than 15 years working across the Australian media landscape, with experience spanning camera work, film, television, radio, journalism and digital media.
Long before Jamie Toomey Presents existed, much of Jamie’s work happened behind the scenes.
Over the years he worked with and alongside a range of organisations, projects and clients, including TAFE NSW and the City of Sydney.
For many years Jamie also assisted Ultimo TAFE’s audiovisual department with filming its Fashion Design runway events. This included productions held at Carriageworks during Australian Fashion Week, putting Jamie behind the camera for everything from rehearsals and preparation through to the runway itself.
FROM BEHIND THE SCENES TO THE BIG SCREEN
Jamie’s work behind the scenes also gave him opportunities to be involved with Australian feature films.
One of the most memorable was Last Cab to Darwin.
Filmed in 2014 and directed by Jeremy Sims, Last Cab to Darwin stars Michael Caton as Rex, a Broken Hill taxi driver who sets out on an extraordinary journey across Australia after learning he doesn’t have long to live.
The film was inspired by the real life story of Broken Hill taxi driver Max Bell, whose journey had previously inspired the stage play on which the film was based.
Jamie worked on the production in Broken Hill, an experience that remains one of the highlights of his years working behind the scenes in Australian media.
Jamie also worked on unINDIAN, the Australian Indian romantic comedy starring Tannishtha Chatterjee and Australian cricket legend Brett Lee.
Directed by Anupam Sharma, unINDIAN was the first feature financed by the Australian Indian Film Fund and brought Australian and Indian cultures together in a locally produced cross cultural story.
For Jamie, it was another opportunity to work on a feature film bringing together people, cultures and perspectives that weren’t always being represented on Australian screens.
INDIGENOUS MEDIA AND STORYTELLING
Jamie briefly spent time with NITV and NITV Radio.
Indigenous stories and perspectives have remained particularly important to him throughout his media career, along with the importance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people having opportunities to tell their own stories and bring their own perspectives to Australian media.
Jamie maintains enormous respect for NITV and the broader SBS network and the work they continue to do providing platforms for those voices.
Jamie has also worked with numerous other places over the course of his career and still holds great respect for almost all of them.
Anyway…
JAMIE TOOMEY PRESENTS
In 2024, Jamie decided to do something slightly different.
He started talking to the camera instead of spending quite so much time behind the scenes.
Originally operating under other names, his YouTube channel eventually became Jamie Toomey Presents, a name inspired by legendary filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock and his television series Alfred Hitchcock Presents.
Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5 used to say to us that things were as easy as 1-2-3, but being a YouTuber is anything but.
Starting a YouTube channel might look easy. Technically, almost anyone can do it. Making it work is another story.
What started as somewhere for Jamie to talk about movies has grown into an independent platform covering physical media, movies, entertainment, music, gaming, technology and whatever else he happens to disappear down a rabbit hole investigating.
Understanding your audience, learning what works, figuring out how to grow and finding the right strategy to make sure your videos actually reach the people you think they’ll resonate with all require continuous learning.
So, further to that earlier reference, YouTube really isn’t as easy as 1-2-3.
At least not if you want to be good at it.
As of September 2026, Jamie Toomey Presents has grown to more than 5,000 YouTube subscribers and 900,000 lifetime views.
Physical media remains a particularly large part of it.
4K Ultra HD. Blu ray. DVD. Different transfers. Strange releases. Forgotten editions. Collecting. Preservation. And occasionally spending an unreasonable amount of time investigating something approximately seven other people on Earth care about.
That’s part of the fun.
And the fun is important.
YouTube channels can sometimes become very serious about what they do. Jamie would rather remember that movies, collecting and entertainment are supposed to be entertaining.
That’s why a serious discussion about a 4K transfer can suddenly be interrupted by a giraffe puppet named Haroldo.
Haroldo has been appearing alongside Jamie since late 2025 and has somehow become one of the longest serving members of Jamie Toomey Presents.
There is probably a lesson in that.
Gene Wilder once explained the thinking behind Willy Wonka’s famous first appearance in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. Wonka walks toward the crowd with a limp and a cane, the cane becomes stuck, and suddenly he tumbles forward into a somersault and springs back to his feet.
Wilder’s reasoning was simple. From that moment onward, the audience wouldn’t know whether Wonka was lying or telling the truth.
There’s something about that philosophy Jamie loves.
Not the lying part.
Probably important to clarify that.
It’s the unpredictability.
Jamie can spend ten minutes seriously discussing the preservation of physical media and then start arguing with a giraffe.
You never quite know where things are going.
That’s Jamie Toomey Presents.
Things sometimes go wrong. Technology refuses to cooperate. A twenty minute video becomes forty. Something that wasn’t supposed to happen becomes the best part.
That’s probably not changing.
And because this is Jamie’s own website, Jamie also gets to write his own biography.
He considered calling himself a visionary or a revolutionary, but those were already taken.
As was Tribal Chief.
But if it can be said, Jamie is the Indigenous Superman of Physical Media on YouTube.
It’s said that much like the truth, the cream rises to the top.
Jamie believes in the truth, the whole truth and nothing but…
The Truth.
That one is also taken.
Ultimately, Jamie likes to have fun.
It’s never really work when you genuinely enjoy what you’re doing, and the fact that so many people choose to tune in to hear what Jamie has to say is something he feels incredibly fortunate to have.
More than anything, he’s excited to see where Jamie Toomey Presents goes next.
Independent media.
Independent direction.
Questionable restraint.
